Raising Rabbits, Pt. 2 & 3 – Breeding & Kindle

Hey there! It feels like it’s been forever since I last wrote, but I’ve been working on a lot of Vlog material as of late. Primarily concerning our rabbit project. You may be familiar with that if you’ve read my previous post about our Rabbit Hutch or checked out my Homesteading Project on YouTube. It seems that rabbits make up a good chunk of my mornings and evenings now!

It took around three months to get our does pregnant, but from a purely educational perspective we learned a lot about our rabbits in that time. We also figured out that rabbits don’t tend to mate with members of the same sex. But hey, I didn’t know I had a boy until it happened. I thought my sexing was good enough to separate boys and girls…. but anyway. Watch this video about how we bred our rabbits, and try not to be jealous if my buck lasts longer than you do.

All of our does successfully kindled their litters in September and I was lucky enough to catch our New Zealand, Elsa kindling her litter. Check out the video. It’s pretty awesome! There is blood though. Fair warning.

Stay tuned for more adventures from the Daddy Engine Homestead. We’re getting our feet under us and are on track for a successful weaning!

All aboard!
